Miron Zownir maintains one of the most radical positions within contemporary photography. He deals with existentialist issues and portraits outsiders such as drug addicts, homeless people, prostitutes and criminals. In the late 1970s, he documented the upcoming punk movement in Berlin and London. In 1980, he emigrated in the USA, where he continued to focus on the everyday chaos of the underworld. He therefore gained the reputation as a ‘Teutonic Phenomenographer’ or even ‘Poet of Radical Photography’. Zownir prefers to work in black and white, in order to render his works an even more hard-hitting touch. Besides his photographic career, Zownir is also active as a writer and director. He now lives and works in Berlin.
