        May. 19, 2024

Khairudin Zainudin (b. 1987) Tranquility In The Big City, 2016

        Est: RM4,500 - RM8,000

With the fusion of bold sticker symbols, dynamic interplay of texts, and overlapping figures, the artist unravels his travel observations onto the pictorial space. A journey to Hong Kong inspired Khairudin to revitalize his impressions of the various logos and symbols reflecting underground subculture, graffiti art, wireless networks, people, and food (through mandarin words derived from menus). The red colour words translates to local dishes such as 芝士炸鲜墨鱼 (cheesy fried fresh squid), 椒盐鲜鱿拼 (salt and pepper fresh squid), 香喷喷 (fragrance), 脆皮 (crispy skin), and 全蒜 (full garlic). In this work, art and design merge into one another, as it reflects on the process of learning foreign cultures through text and graphic visuals from the surrounding neighbourhood. It also presents a delicate portrayal of figures accompanied by local stickers encountered during his stay. Tranquility In The Big City is a contemplation materialised on canvas, tracing the exchange of ideas and goods within the city. Khairudin Zainudin has had many solo exhibitions up to date. Besides actively participating in various group exhibitions locally, his works have been exhibited at numerous art fairs such as Art Expo Malaysia, Art Stage Singapore, Art Taipei, Art Kaohsiung, and Bazaar Art Jakarta. His complex figurative composition with lines often captivates the audiences. His solo exhibition Cerita Orang was held in 2023.

Khairudin Zainudin (b. 1987) Terima Dengan Rela, 2014

        Est: RM5,000 - RM8,000

A transient meeting point, the train station serves as a place for travellers embarking towards a destination. The railway contains encounters and movement of people from different places converging at a certain point of time and serves as a place where paths briefly cross one another. Terima Dengan Rela is the artist's construction of space, featuring a realistic depiction of the gestures of an elderly man sitting along the train tracks, with a rucksack. The artist used swift, expressive lines and muted colours to convey stories and portraits derived from his acute observations of life. At times, life is hard, life goes on, we move on with Hope.
