Yuan Xiao Fang (born 1961 in Huangshi, Province of Hubei/China) The New World 747, signed (in Chinese and Latin script) and dated Xiao Fang 2007, oil on canvas, 200 x 150 cm, on a stretcher, (PS) Exhibited: Pretty Land Gallery, Krefeld "inmitten" - Contemporary Art from China, A Real Experience - The Contemporary Art Exhibition, 2007, p. 64 (colour repr.) In 1986 Yuan Xiao Fang completed his studies at the Hubei Art Academy and has been a professor there since 1992. He participated in the Asian International Exhibitions (1998-2003), the 4th International Shenzhen Biennial of Ink Drawing, and the 1st Triennial of Chinese Art at the Guaghzoi Art Museum (2004). In 2005 Xiao Fang's works were on display in Bern and at the Kunsthalle Hamburg, in the exhibition Mahjong. Chinesische Gegenwartskunst aus der Sammlung Sigg. His works strike one because of their colours and clarity of motifs: the spectator is confronted with an idealised, glorified, and irritating imagery bathed in bright pink from which a Boeing jet plane or a combat helicopter emerge.
