L’ensemble est exécué vers 1860-1865, deuxième période de l’oeuvre de cet artiste, actif de 1854 à 1880 environ. Élève de Yoshimune, il travaille à Edo, et surtout, est considéré comme un des grands maîtres d’Osaka.

At night on the banks of the Sumida, in the role of the otokodate Yoshibei Onoe Tamizo II and in the role of the young shop employee Chokichi Arashi Rikaku II. The handsome and elegant Yoshibei murders his brother-in-law Chokichi, whom he did not recognise in the darkness. Sign: Ichiyotei Yoshitaki ga and Noriya Yoshitaki ga. Excellent impression with Bokashi, blind and glossy printing (haori of Yoshibei), slightly faded, backed, oxidation (kimono of Tokubei). (328)
