Elle prend à bras-le-corps la culture ancestrale de ce pays pour mieux la détourner et créer un nouveau monde d'illusions, une vision entre rêve et cauchemar inspirée par la peinture traditionnelle de paysages, les fameux shanshui. C'est l'oeuvre d'un jeune artiste photographe shanghaien, Yang Yongliang. Comme celui-ci le dit lui-même, il crée pour « critiquer la réalité qu'il a sous les yeux », alors même que les anciens traduisaient par leur art le sentiment profond qu'exerçait sur eux une nature qui semblait immuable. Comme ses illustres ancêtres, il privilégie la composition pour masquer de prime abord le contenu, ce paysage chaotique fourmillant non plus d'arbres centenaires, de cascades, de pavillons, mais de pylônes électriques, de gratte-ciel, de bagnoles ! En revenant aux longs rouleaux panoramiques, en jouant sur des détails, sur des effets d'échelle, Yang Yongliang incarne effectivement un nouveau shanshui. Claude Hudelot
