Lee Kah Yeow Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1901 - d. 1995

Mr Lee Kah Yeow was a Malaysian Lingnan School Chinese ink artist. In 1922, he graduated from the then Shanghai Fine Arts School (Nanjing University of the Arts today) established by Master Liu Haisu, a pioneer of China’s new art movement and modern art education. In 1926, he moved to Malaya (today’s Singapore and Malaysia), where he worked both as an educator and also as an art teacher. Instead of selling, he held a strong principle of donating his artworks exclusively for the benefit of the society, particularly for the Chinese community, thereby earning him a highly respected reputation among the people.
