Yelin 1918' Decorative stucccoe frame Dimensions: 81 x 120 cm Provenance: Private collection, Germany A characteristic religious representation by Rudolf Yelin with Moses, Joshua and Caleb, who see the Promised Land of Canaan Rudolf Yelin was quite early influenced by the church paintings of Austrian artist Eduard Jacob von Steinle. He created numerous mural paintings in churches, among other for the Conventual Church in Stuttgart and also created stained glass windows. His paintings often show biblical motifs, so does the painting presented here, depicting a scene from the Old Testament with Moses, Joshua and Caleb, who in this moment see the promised land of Canaan. Our painting is signed and dated lower right 'R. Yelin 1918'. There is a small hole in the upper right area. In the upper left small color flaking, partly retouched. Scattered small stains, otherwise overall in good condition. The painting measures 81 x 120 cm, the frame dimensions are 90 x 129 cm. Rudolf Yelin the Elder (1864-1941) Rudolf Yelin I was born 1864 in Reutlingen. The parents wanted their son to pursuit a theological career, however he decided to quit theology and devoted himself to painting. In Munich he took classes with Heinz Heim, later with Paul Nauen at the Munich Academy and Prof. Frank Kirchbach at the Städel Art Institute in Frankfurt. Influenced by his theological background Yelin painted predominantly monumental mural paintings with religious subjects in churches, later he also devoted himself to glass painting. His occasional landscapes and portraits are characterized by the realism of the Munich school. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
