      YAZ French, b. 1974 ICON - Americana x Kryptos, 2014 Signed YAZ, inscribed Americana Kryptos and 5/8 and dated 2014 Bronze with green patina, from an edition of eight 11 x 9 x 5 inches (27.94 x 22.86 x 12.7 cm) Provenance: From1Secret Gallery, Paris Paying tribute to the Adidas Americana sneaker which first came to prominence in the 70s as the shoe of choice for the NBA, French artist YAZ continues his infamous series of bronze sneakers - albeit in this instance with the sneaker modified for the roller rink with Kryptonics wheels. As the artist states, "being a kid in the Parisian suburbs in the 80s was a bit frustrating, my friends and I were living on New York's heartbeat for music, fashion and graffiti. And if I remember holding my breath during the entire operation of piercing my beloved pair of Americana, I would never regret taking that risk. Because when I took those for a ride, the intense joy could transport me anywhere. Skitching behind my hometown bus almost felt like I could pass by the Empire Disco roller rink in Brooklyn. I tried to carve that powerful feeling of freedom into this sculpture and I really enjoyed crafting this street culture icon. This is also why I absolutely wanted it to roll and not just stand, which complicated the project in unpredictable ways..." C

C'est la basket avec laquelle Jordan gagna son premier titre NBA avec Les Chicago Bulls. Défiant les frontières, Yaz atteint notre sensibilité par des anachronismes matériels. C'est à travers la noblesse du bronze que ses recherches et souvenirs prennent forme. Le résultat est un coup de projecteur sur notre psyché de consommateur. Le bronze a depuis toujours été utilisé pour représenter le sacré. La série ICON matérialise la véritable perception d'une génération pour un objet aussi iconique que la Nike Air Jordan. L'objet est passé de bien commun de cuir et de caoutchouc pour devenir un symbole culturel désiré. Originaire d'une cité sculptée à même le roc, Constantine, Yaz a installé ses ateliers en Indonésie à proximité d'un volcan toujours actif.
