Jamie Wyeth Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1946 -

The imaginative realism of Jamie Wyeth's paintings, whether portraits or landscapes, were a stark contrast to the popular abstract techniques that most emerging artists of that time were influenced by. Images of pigs, sheep, and other livestock created in oils and watercolors were among Jamie Wyeth's art for sale during his early career. Later he took on more political subjects, even sketching the court trials of Watergate in 1974.

Jamie Wyeth's paintings eventually attracted the attention of some Kennedy family friends, and he was asked to do a posthumous portrait of JFK. Jamie Wyeth's prints include two official White House Christmas cards commissioned by President Reagan and the First Lady in 1981 and 1984. You can buy other striking portrait prints for sale online to add another layer of interest to your gallery.

JAMIE WYETH (PA/ME/DE, 1946 - ) Untitled (Derelict), watercolor on board, signed lower right, depicting Schooner "Eva S. Cullison" laid up in Camden, Maine, in 1958 (painted when he was 12 years old!).In mahogany stick frame, matted under glass, OS: 21" x 28", SS: 13" x 19 3/4". Letter from the artist reads "This image was painted by me in 1958 - I was 12. My father and I often went on painting "rambles" along the Rockland waterfront. On this particular trek, we came upon this derelict schooner Eva S. Cullison. I chose to paint the bow view, while he chose the side view ("The Slip"). I recall that the week we worked on our respective paintings, we often took breaks: our afternoons were spent in the darkness of the 2 Rockland movie houses, "The Knox" and "The Strand". I loved our painting rambles!" Also includes a newspaper clipping from Feb 2010, indicating this painting sold for $11,115 at Pook & Pook. of Downingtown, Penn. The schooner "Eva S. Cullison" was built in 1888 in Baltimore, MD. She was used in the banana trade, and for fishing oysters. By the early 1940's, she had become part of Capt. Swift's Windjammer Fleet in Penobscot Bay, Maine. She was taken out of service in 1954 and berthed in Rockland, where the Wyeths painted her four years later. She was ultimately dismantled in Cape Ann, Mass.
