Chinese Painting of Landscape, Yifeng WU (1907-1998)

Ink and color on paper, Yifeng Wu (1907-1998), whose given name was Li and styled Yifeng, was also known by the alias "Da Zou Ke." He was of Han ethnicity and hailed from Pinghu, Zhejiang Province. In his early years, he studied calligraphy under Yu Tiansui in Shanghai and learned seal carving from Weng Ziqin and Zhu Tianfan. In September 1923, he was admitted to the Western Painting Department of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, later transferring to the Chinese Painting Department, from which he graduated in July 1928. During this period, he became acquainted with prominent figures such as Liu Haisu, Zhu Tianfan, Chen Jia’an, and Ma Qizhou, from whom he greatly benefited. In 1932, Wu followed Huang Binhong from Shanghai to Sichuan, where he was invited to teach at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts and the Oriental Academy of Fine Arts. His works were selected for major exhibitions such as the "International Calligraphy Exhibition" in Henan and the "First National Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition." Many of his pieces were published in professional journals both domestically and internationally and are held in prestigious collections, including the Palace Museum in Beijing, the British Museum in London, and various scenic sites across China. He was also commissioned to carve seals for numerous renowned scholars and public figures. Wu was skilled in traditional Chinese painting and published collections such as The Painting Collection of Wu Yifeng's Travels in Sichuan and Selected Chinese Paintings of Wu Yifeng. He held positions as an art cadre at the Sichuan Provincial Mass Art Museum, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, a member of the Chinese Artists Association, an advisor to the Sichuan Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Academy, an advisor to the Chengdu Painting Academy, and a special researcher at the Sichuan Provincial Research Institute of Literature and History. A personal note from previous owner, together with printed introcuduction of the artist and his work can be sold together with this lot if buyer purchase both lots of Yifeng Wu. 9 in. x 6.2 in.

Fifty years ago, I wrote this adventure Stagecoach, especially there are frightened. Xinwei Xia Wu Yifeng eighty and five. Seals: Indian Wu Li's, a peak Description: a peak, a peak of the word, alias large walk-off, Zhejiang Pinghu people. I was in Shanghai in the early days then guide calligraphy, too Wengzai Qin, Chu Tien Van teach carving. Who was Liu Hai Su, Chu Tien Van, Chen gamma Um, horse prices Zhou et al lessons, learned a lot. Since 1932, with Huang Bin Hu Shu, employed in Sichuan College of Art, Oriental Art College to teach.
