Wu Jinshi (b.1940) Shanxi, China Untitled 2007 Mixed media Signed lower left Signed with artitst's stamp 80 x 112 cm EXHIBITIONS: Shenbo Art, LITERATURE: The artist is well-known for inventing Wubi Hua in1976, meaning 'painting without using brush'. He has several publications of paint techniques. Whilst researching a new pattern of oil paint he was inspired to explore the art world further. After decades of testing, based on the theory that water & oil cannot be mixed, he invented a new technique of painting. He drops prepared oil paint into water, shaping the patterns by blowing, pulling, lifting & dipping the paint, letting different colours drop onto paper in layers. The temperature of the water, the speed & fluctuation of the flow are also controlled by the artist & influences the final work. This technique was widely reported in the 1980s - 2000s. Wu has successfully registered the copyright in 2007. A massive painting named 'Huanghe Qing' (The love of the Yellow River) has given to the seventh President of the International Olympic Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch as a gift from the Olympic Council of Asia in 1990.
