Tag on back frame displays previous gallery information.  Overall: 32 1/2 X 37 in.  Sight: 19 3/4 X 23 1/2 in.  Depth: 2 in.  #2677 .  Redmond Stephens Wright was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 13th, 1903. From an early age he was fascinated by art, teaching himself  the basics of etching and portraiture. He attended the Art Institute of Chicago and then Harvard University, developing his skills further as a muralist. In the turbulent 20s he spent several years in Paris, studying under Edouard Leon. He returned to the United States and worked in New York City until the late 1930s, when he settled in Pasadena, California for good. From 1937 onward he was a regular teacher at the Pasadena Art Institute, and offered additional courses at the San Gabriel Valley Art Center. An outspoken pacifist, he fell out of the public eye following World War II, painting countless harbor and maritime scenes for his own pleasure. A handful of his works can be found in the Crocker Art Museum and in the collections of the Harvard Alumni Association. He passed away in Cathedral City on April 5th, 1991.
