          May. 17, 2020

DON WORTH - Aspens, Autumn, NM, 1958

          Est: $2,500 - $3,500

This print is signed in pencil mount recto, with title, number “Photograph no. 11” in ink, and Message from the West Coast portfolio stamp mount verso. Printed in 1985. Don Worth, one of Ansel Adams’ early assistants, accompanied his mentor on this historic day, meeting renowned photographer Laura Gilpin at the same stand of trees. It is rumored that Worth composed the iconic horizontal composition that has gained Adams great renowned, before stepping aside to let the elder one make it instead. Whether Worth made this composition prior to Adams’ similar vertical one is unclear, but the profound influence that each photographer had on the other is undisputed.
