Date: 19th century Description: A masterfully crafted work of art depicting a group of people in festive attire in a harmonious, natural setting. A woman crowns a younger woman, possibly a bridal couple, under an arch of foliage. Children and a clergyman reinforce the festive atmosphere.       Thomas Woolnoth (born 1785 London): Portrait of Baron Lyndhurst, 1842, Crayon manner Technique: Crayon manner on Paper Inscription: Law, he became known for defending the radicals Watson and Thistlewood. He was an influential member of the Coservative Party in the House of Lords and was elevated to Lord Chancellor several times. He died in London in 1863. Thomas Woolnoth (London 1785 - London c. 1857) was a painter and engraver. Date: 1842 Description: Signed and inscribed below the depiction: "Drawn by T. Woolnoth, Engraved by T. Woolnoth John-Singleton Cobley, Baron Lyndhurst Fisher. Son&ampC° London 1842", additionally facsimile signature of the sitter in the plate. Woolnoth portrayed Lyndhurst with a long white wig. It falls impressively on his splendid cloak. Lyndhurst is looking very seriously to the right. The three-quarter profile clearly shows his characteristically curved nose, which gives him a stern appearance. John Singleton Copley, 1st Baron Lyndhurst was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1772, the son of the portrait painter John Sigleton Copley. His family moved to England at an early age.
