Owen Wood, British 1929-2003- Green with Envy; watercolour on paper, signed lower left, 38.7 x

        Est: £250 - £350

Owen Wood, British 1929-2003- Green with Envy; watercolour on paper, signed lower left, 38.7 x 51.5 cm: together with another watercolour on paper by the same artist 'The Parrots Life', signed lower right, 39.5 x 51.6 cm (2) (ARR) Provenance: The Geoffrey and Fay Elliot collection. With Greenwich Village Art Gallery, New York (according to the label on the reverse of the frame); private collection; thence by descent Note: The artist's work demonstrates the influence of the Magical Realism of Latin American. Using a precise and hyper-realistic technique and dense imagery, Wood created highly atmospheric and fantastical works. The artist studied at Camberwell under figures such as John Minton and Leonard Rosoman, whose influence can be felt in his work. Working as an illustrator, Wood creating many beloved designs, including for Hugh Johnson’s 'Wine, 1966' and 'The Owl and the Pussy Cat and other Nonsense by Edward Lear, 1978', which was a major international success. Both mounted and held in glazed wooden frames, with minor scuff marks. Green with envy: Appears to have slipped very slightly in the mount in top right corner, but unexamined out of frame. Very minor stains or dots of pigment at centre of top edge. Paper and painted surface in very good condition. Parrots life: May or may not be stuck down as unexamined out of frame. One very small stain or dot of pigment lower left corner. Paper and painted surface in very good condition.
