    Alexander M. Wood (British/American; 1849 - 1925) California Landscape Oil on canvas Signed A.M. Wood lower left. Born in Scotland in 1849, Wood was active in northern California from the mid-1880s. He was a close friend of A. D. M. Cooper, and often joined him on painting excursions and drinking sprees. In November 1887, Wood and Cooper auctioned off several of their paintings in San Jose, one of which was painted jointly. A self-taught, itinerant artist, Wood worked in several parts of the Northwest including British Columbia. He maintained a studio-home in San Francisco at 112 Columbus Avenue until his death there of tuberculosis on June 5, 1925. His various occupations listed in the city directories included stonecutter, varnisher, and painter. 30" x 49". Small scrape at top edge

    American, 1849-1925 SEASCAPE Signed AM Wood (ll) Oil on canvas 21 3/4 x 38 3/4 inches Dirty varnish. Frame rubbing. Reverse stabilized - not lined. Visible stretcher lines. Scattered craquelure. Canvas buckled on stretcher in the lower left corner. No apparent restoration. Several small scattered paint flakes in the sky.
