FRANZ WLCEK* (Ybbs at the Danube 1911 - 1999 Ybbs at the Danube) Pier, 1953 gouache/paper, 50 x 41,5 cm signed and dated Wlcek F 53 ESTIMATE € 1600 - 3000 STARTING PRICE € 1600 Franz Wlcek is primarily a representative of 20th century landscape painting. He also worked in the areas of still life, portrait and nude painting. The heavy colors of his pictures are underlined by passionately strong and impulsive brushwork. The imagery is expressive, as his teacher Josef Dobrowsky taught him. Dobrowsky's other students at the Vienna Academy included Alfred Hrdlicka, Josef Milk, Wofgang Hollegha and Heinrich Maria Hunger. The motifs of his expressive oil and tempera paintings as well as watercolors and pastels come from his Austrian homeland: the Wachau, the Mostviertel and Alpine foothills as well as Vienna and its surroundings. Wlcek took numerous study trips to Sweden, Norway and Italy. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax of 13%, for photographys 20%, is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
