    VERA WISE (1892-1978) Untitled Garden Scene Watercolor 21in. x 29in. Signed lower right Vera Wise studied at the Kansas City Art Institute under Thomas Hart Benton in the early to mid-1930s. In 1939 she accepted a position as the first chairman of the art department at the Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy (now University of Texas at El Paso) where she remained until her retirement in 1962. Her watercolors are always vibrant and colorful.
