  • Robert Burns Wilson pastel - Kentucky
    Mar. 17, 2024

Robert Burns Wilson pastel - Kentucky

    Est: -

Robert Burns Wilson pastel - Kentucky Pastel on paper of a creek scene in a wooded area at dawn or dusk. Signed to viewer's lower right in red, "Robert Burns Wilson". Nice clean image free of toning which is too often found on his works. This, a deaccession from "Ashland". Too late to have belonged to Henry Clay, possibly left by a descendant. Excellent condition in what is probably the original oak lightly gilded frame, a frame preference of the artist. Probably a Bluegrass scene painted within the last quarter of the 19th century. 9 3/8" x 13 ½" framed to 22 ½" x 26 ½".

Robert Burns Wilson pastel - Kentucky Pastel on heavy paper of hollyhocks along a path between house and barn signed in red to viewer's lower right, "Robert Burns Wilson". This an exceptional example of the artist's work considering composition, style, execution and condition. Old loan exhibition attached to reverse. Unusual to find such a nice Wilson in an excellent state of preservation. Image size 14 ¼" x 21 ½". In a later frame 23 3/8" x 29 5/8". Likely central Kentucky scene, Franklin Co. the best candidate. Last quarter of the 19th century.
