    An original signed mezzotint engraving by English artist Sydney E. Wilson (1869-?) titled "Lady De La Pole", 1924 after a painting by English artist George Romney (1734-1802). Hand pencil signed lower right. Limited edition: 425. In no other state, the plate was destroyed. Printed at the top center margin: 'Copyright Published January 1st, 1924 by Vicars Brothers, 12 Old Bond St. London.' 'MSNG' blindstamp/chopmark lower left. Sheet size: 28.25" x 19.75". Image size: 20" x 12.5". This large engraving is laid down on a thin board. General toning and wear associated with age to outer margin of sheet. The image/plate itself is in very good condition. In overall good condition. (Please see pictures).Sydney E. Wilson (1869-?) was a British engraver working in London in the late 19th century, known for his accurate engravings based on oils by Morland, Gainsborough, and other celebrated British painters of the 18th and 19th century.

Signed, titled and dated in pencil, lower margin. A very good, dark impression of this scarce print. The color version of La Calle was sold at Swann Galleries on February 19, 2008. This is only the second known impression to appear at auction.

    JOHN WILSON (1922 - ) La Calle. Color lithograph on thin wove paper, 1951. 205x355 mm; 8x14 inches, wide (full ?) margins. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 13/22 in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression of this scarce print. We have not found another impression of this print at auction in 20 years. There is another impression in the collection of the artist, illustrated in the exhibition catalogue, In the Spirit of Resistance, African-American Modernists and the Mexican Muralist School, 1996, pl. 88, p. 163. In 1950 Wilson received a John Hay Whitney scholarship to Mexico, and like Charles White and Elizabeth Catlett before him, he enrolled in La Esmeralda School in Mexico City to study mural painting. He also completed a small group of lithographs depicting Mexican manual laborers working in the streets.
