    From an identified historic building, in carved and painted spruce, weathered, retaining the majority of the original paint. 27" x 23" x 17". Includes custom counter-rake wedge. Joseph Wilson (1779-1857), a wood carver, arrived in Newburyport in 1798. Wilson primarily carved figureheads and other decorative elements. Appears in an H.P. MacIntosh albumen photo stereoview card, circa 1870. V33 State St., Essex County, Newburyport, MA. (known to be photographer Hiram P. Macintosh, Hiram Pearson Macintosh Sr. 1830–1907, born in Boston, Suffolk County, MA, and worked and died in Newburyport. There are a long line of Macintosh sons named Hiram Pearson Macintosh from this important DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution and SAR Sons of the American Revolutionary War family. He was an apprentice in the 1850s under photographer Elijah R. Perkins, an ambrotype artist, and took over Perkin's studio on State St. in 1859. He worked from the 1850s, until his last Newburyport photography City Directory listing in 1889. He was then appointed collector of customs by President William Henry Harrison, becoming the top US customs collector in the country.
