First edition with first issue title page, this copy signed "Wil: Livingston" on the title page likely in the hand of the New Jersey Governor. 20th century cloth. 13 1/8 x 8 3/8 inches (33.5 x x 22 cm); 389, 28, 4, 4, 30 pp., without blanks. The title with ink and embossed stamps and lightly toned, foxing and toned leaves, generally clean. This work compilation of New Jersey laws from 1776 to 1783, during the governorship of Livingston, whose name runs as a headline throughout. This is one of the earliest copies distributed before the title page was corrected from reporting the source of the publication being the General Assembly rather than the legislature as a whole. George Herbert Harries had a long and distinguished career in the United States Army and was a volunteer aide to General Nelson A. Miles during the Wounded Knee Campaign in South Dakota, 1890-91.     JAMES WILSON (1742 - 1798) Signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, which he helped to frame, also a member of the Continental Congress. Good content partly-printed D.S. 1p. legal folio, Philadelphia, Oct. 19, 1790, an agreement between Wilson and signer ROBERT MORRIS in which Wilson agrees to pay Morris "Seventeen thousand seven hundred and two Livres Eight Sols Tournois". Countersigned by an associate of Morris, Garrett Cottringer. At the time, Morris was pursuing a vain attempt to corner the American tobacco market by selling the product to France, and was just getting into land speculation that would ultimately prove his ruin. Light toning, otherwise very good.
