Druck d. Kunst Anst. d.Oestr. Lloyd d.Triest - Willmann sc.", inscribed on the left below the image "R. Alt pinx.", named "Walhalla". From the opposite bank of the Danube, the viewers look at the winding river and some birds on the bank. In the middle ground, a wooden barge and two cows in a pasture. In the background, on a slope, the market town of Donaustauf. Above it, on a hill, then the Walhalla, a memorial site housing busts and plaques of important German personalities. Opened in 1842, this memorial was an attempt to counteract the fragmentation of Germany at the beginning of the 19th century by reclaiming a national identity.
