I-II with title vignettes, 386 engraved plates on 200 sheets, most after Wicar, under the direction of Masquelier. Vol. IV with the one-leaf 'Tableau des 48 Livraisons' at end. (Some spotting of text and plate margins, lacking the additional title in vol. I.) Contemporary russia gilt, covers with wide decorative boder, gilt spines and turn-ins, gilt edges. A valuable record of the astonishing wealth of ancient sculptures, friezes and modern pictures, printed on papier-vélin superfin de Johannot d'Annonay. (293 x 225 mm.) NOTES A portrait of Laboureur, a sculptor of Flemish descent working in Rome, by Wicar is in the Academia di San Luca, Rome. His first protector in Rome was the French Ambassador, and in 1802 he gained membership of the Academia di San Luca, of which he was elected president in 1820.
