Freely see my Picture of Death on the Pale Horse – with others of my Pictures now Exhibited at 125 Pall Mall and also those in my Gallery at No 14 Newman Street Oxford Street", and thanking him for the gift of Voltaire and "the Fragment by Clio Rickman"; docketed by the latter: "The hand writing of Benjamin West the great historical painter &c, see his life published in 1818 – Clio 1819", one page, guard, small repair in top margin, 4to, 19 March 1818

Autograph Letter Signed, "Benjamin West" written in this famed artist's beautiful, flowing script, measuring 7" x 7", dated Nov. 13. 1818, Choice Extremely Fine. West's large, bold brown ink signature measures 2" long and demonstrates impressive eye appeal. This letter was beautifully written by the historic painter from his home in England, asking permission that his representative be allowed to inspect his personal Trust Account in the United States. It reads, in full:"Gentlemen - Have the goodness to permit my Soliciter Mr. Henderson of 23 John Street Bedford Row - to inspect the "Trust account of my Relatives in America" Standing in my name in your Books - and to favour him with my explanation of it - and to furnish him with a copy of it should he deem it requisite. I request your excusing my Occasoning you this trouble - I am Gentlemen your very Obidient Servt. - Benjamin West".Accompanied by a modern copy image of Benjamin West. This is an impressive looking, fresh and clean, well written letter. (2 items) Benjamin West was self taught an famous American Colonial Era artist who's noted for his "epic representation" styled paintings. He was renowned for his dramatic portrayals of conflictual instances in America's battle for independence. Upon his move to England, he was commissioned by King George III to create portraits of members of the royal family, and soon founded the Royal Academy of Arts.
