Heinrich von Wertheim, Oil Painting, ‘At Lake Garda’, c. 1920

      Est: €1,500 - €1,950

Oil on canvas, relined Italy, around 1928 Heinrich von Wertheim (1875-1945) – Austrian landscape and veduta painter Signed lower right ‘H. Wertheim’ Verso with an old label ‘… at Lake Garda / Wertheim Heinrich’ In decorative wooden frame Dimensions: 31.7 x 47.7 cm Good condition Characteristical landscape painting by the Austrian painter Heinrich von Wertheim The painting, executed in oil on canvas, was created by the Austrian painter Heinrich von Wertheim (1875-1945). He was born in Vienna and specialized in landscape depictions of his familiar surroundings and also Italy, which he always rendered in harmonious light. Depicted is the view over the landscape adjacent to Lake Garda. The lake touches the landscape, where under tall trees, among them cypresses and pine-trees, the ruins of two antique buildings appear. The scenery is plunged into the bright light of the sun. The landscape is enlivened by a figure staffage in the lower, central image area, who is streaking along the shore in traditional clothing with two donkeys. The painting is in good condition according its age. The canvas has been relined and shows some slight framing marks in the corners. The layer of paint is very finely craqueled and has been punctually amended in the area of the sky with small touch ups. In the upper left is some paint missing in the shape of a ca. 1.5 cm long vertical line. In the lower left area, as well as in two points in the center, are larger color touch ups. Verso on the stretcher frame is an old label with the inscription ‘… at Lake Garda / Wertheim Heinrich’. The stretcher frame measures 31.7 x 47.7 cm and the total dimensions, including the frame, are 37.5 x 53.5 cm. Heinrich von Wertheim (1875-1945) The landscape and veduta painter Heinrich von Wertheim was born in the year 1870 in Vienna. He primarily painted in watercolor views from Vienna, as well as motifs from Riva, Ragusa, Meran, from Lake Garda and Josefberg at Mariazell.
