Differential taxation is not possible. The photographer Robert Werling was born in San Francisco and he studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. He created various series of the Californian and Hawaiian landscape. After his studies he received private lessons from Anselm Adams for another four years and from Imogen Cunningham for another seven years. His sense of composition and light gives his work a certain elegance that shows the influence of the photographers he has worked with. The present photograph depicts the dune landscape of the South Sea Island Hawaii. In the far distance on the right appears the word ‘SAPAH’ in the dunes. Impressive are the strong contrasts of the black and white photograph. The photograph is signed in pencil lower right on the cardboard ‘Werling’ and bears verso the photographer’s stamp, title and date. The print is mounted on cardboard and in an overall very good condition. The cardboard is slightly soiled on the reverse. The cardboard is 40 x 49.7 cm in size and the dimensions of the photograph are 25.5 x 30.3 cm. Robert Werling (born 1946) The photographer Robert Werling was born in San Francisco and studied at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. In addition he received private lessons by Anselm Adams and Imogen Cunningham. Also Werling worked closely together with Brett Weston and Marion Post Wolcott. While creating a large quantity of works, he also studied at the Brooks Institute, at the University of California and at the ‘Werkschule für Fotografie’ in Soltau, Germany. Werling’s work has been shown in over sixty exhibitions in the United States and in Europe. His prize-wining works have appeared in various publications. In addition his photographs are among the collections of the Sprengel Museum in Hannover, the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington D.
