Rudolph Weisenborn Art for Sale at Auction

Painter, Engraver, Illustrator, b. 1881 - d. 1974

Born in Chicago to German parents and orphaned at age nine, Weisenborn moved to Colorado where he studied a traditional academic curriculum. He relocated to Chicago in 1913 and held the first solo show at the Molten and Rickettes Gallery. His large scale canvas Chicago is credited as the first abstract painting to be shown at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1928. For more than thirty years, Weisenborn participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Salon des Refuses, the Renaissance Society and the No-Jury Society of Artists. During World War II, he was commissioned to paint the large-scale mural The FIghting Navy, 1945, housed at the Kellogg School of Management Art Collection, Chicago.
