      Jacob Weigel (18th century, Germany), Portrait of the German philosopher Johann Franz Buddeus (1667 Anklam - 1729 Gotha), breast piece in oval, 18th century, Mezzotint Technique: Mezzotint on paper Size: 42,2 x 29,4 cm, Plate: 32 x 21,5 cm | 16 2/3 x 11 1/2 in, Plate: 12 2/3 x 8 1/2 in Inscription: lower right signed in the representation Condition: Good condition. The sheet has discolored due to its age and is stained at margins. With a short tear at the edge of the sheet in the middle at the top and in the middle of the right margin. The top of the corner of the sheet at the top is bumped and the corner of the sheet at the lower right has creases. The sheet has been folded horizontally over the middle. The resulting crease is hardly noticeable in the illustration. The graphic makes a very good impression, appears fresh and velvety. Description: Johann Franz Buddeus (1667 Anklam - 1729 Gotha), breast piece in an oval on a plinth with an opulent wig, coat, cape and white collar. Buddeus was a Protestant-Lutheran theologian who was close to Pietism. Inscribed below on the pedestal are the name of the sitter and his biographical data. Keywords: Baroque, Portrait
