In his right hand the portrayed holds a quill. This gesture refers to the sitter's writings, such as his book "Eine Außführliche Instruction Wie in Inquisition Sachen des grewlichen Lasters der Zauberey gegen Die Zaubere der Göttlichen Majestät und der Christenheit Feinde ohne gefahr der Innschuldigen zu procediren", which was published in Cologne in 1634. The sheet is discolored due to its age. Faint traces of rubbing in places and single foxing spots. A short marginal tear at upper left. The upper right corner of the sheet is slightly rubbed.
