WECZERZICK. lower right Dimensions: 91 x 175.5 cm Mounted in gilt Art Nouveau frame: 110 x 195 cm Provenance: Private collection, Germany Condition: The canvas has detachted from the upper edge of the stretcher and should be reframed. The paint surface has darkened and shows staining and typical craquelure as well as slight rubbing. There is a small restoration on the body of the right quail (strengthened on the reverse). Moreover, there is some paint flaking to the upper margin with some tiny touch-ups visible under UV light. The frame is slightly chipped. Alfred Weczerzick (1864-1952) After his studies at the educational institution of the Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts in the 1880s, the Silesian born Alfred Weczerzick worked as an animal painter and illustrator in Berlin and Munich. He debuted in 1889 with pictures of birds at the Berliner Kunstausstellung. His favorite subjects were monkeys and dogs, which he often sat in a narrative framework; he also painted numerous landscapes. Weczerzick’ Inscribed verso two times with ‘Alfred Weczerzick’ Inscribed bottom center with title ‘Lady Framed dimensions: 41 x 30.5 cm Very good condition The dog portrait of Fox Terrier ‘Lady’ is painted in oil and probably shows the beloved dog of the German painter Alfred Weczerzick. Especially the floppy ears and the faithful dogs eyes have it done to the viewer. A really cute version of a dog portrait. The image is in very good condition with hardly any signs of age. The frame shows minimal signs of age and wear. The painting is signed lower left with ‘A. Weczerzick’. At the back it is inscribed two times at the bottom center in pencil with ‘Alfred Weczerzick’ and with the title of the image ‘Lady’. The overall dimensions are 41 x 30.5 cm and the cardboard measures 32.5 x 20.5 cm. (asi) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
