Ne Grottesken Buch mit allerley Frantzsischen Pein (Warncke 1148-1184) the complete set of 37 iron etchings including title with text printed from a separate plate, 1619, the only known complete set of this extremely rare series of grotesques, published by the artist in Bamberg, 1619, watermarks Initial P in Shield with Crown, Double Headed Eagle with Initials ED and others, all with margins, in very good condition, bound in later quarter vellum with red boards Plates: 6 3/8 x 5¼ in. (161 x 133 mm.) (and similar) Sheets: 10 x 6 in. (259 x 165 mm.) Overall: 10 3/8 x 6 5/8 in. (263 x 168 mm.) Provenance: Helmuth Domizlaff (1902-1983), with his blindstamp (Lugt 3881). Acquired from August Laube, 1991. Warncke knew no complete set of this series and recorded the copies in Coburg (36 plates) and Berlin (35 plates) as the most complete copies.
