William Harris Weatherhead Sold at Auction Prices

Genre Painter

Weatherhead was a British, London–based watercolorist who began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1862. His subject matter was genre images – story-telling images of humans in period dress within room interiors—often seated beside a window that illuminates the figure. From 1862 he kept a careful log of every painting he produced, including title, size, and medium (either watercolor or oil), hours spend, cost of materials and other brief notes about the picture. Weatherhead was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour from 1885 until he resigned in 1903. A work by him is owned by the Victoria and Albert Museum: “From my Highland Laddie”. The Sydney Museum has his painting “Looking Out for a Shot.”
