Abraham Lincoln: Pair of Warren Albumen Photographs.

      Est: $3,200 - $4,800

Abraham Lincoln: Pair of Warren Albumen Photographs. The last photographs of Lincoln done during his lifetime were taken by Boston photographer Henry F. Warren on March 6, 1865. Warren had come to Washington to photograph the inauguration. Tad Lincoln tricked his father into appearing on the balcony of the White House where Warren waited "in ambush" and was able to take two images (this one, O-112, and a variant, O-113). The photographer first published O-112 titled: "The Latest Photograph of President Lincoln, Taken on the Balcony at the White House, March 6, 1865". After Lincoln's assassination, it was re-issued with the title: "The Last Photograph of President Lincoln." We offer the pair, nicely framed in burl walnut to an overall size of 23" x 16". The albumen photographs measure 6 ¼" x 8 ¼" and are affixed to the original 10 ¼" x 13 ¼" titled mounts. Warren was able to get some "crowd shots" on the rain soaked streets of the Capital on Inauguration Day, but he apparently did not take any shots of the President taking the oath of office or delivering his Inaugural Address.
