    JUAN BUCKINGHAM WANDESFORDE (American, 1817-1902) THE TRAPPERS FIRE.

    Outstanding oil on canvas western scene shows two men around a campfire, their guns resting on the rocks. They have found a clearing next to a lake with tall mountains, tall trees and colorful sunset sky from blue to pink to yellow. Signed lower right "Wandesforde". Housed in a period gesso decorated lemon gold frame. Wandesforde became a resident artist in San Francisco in 1862 and resided in Hayward, CA until his death in 1902. This could be a scene of Clear Lake, California which he frequented often. He was the co-founder and first president of the San Francisco Art Association. SIZE: 16" x 24". PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Geraldine Gaba, Scottsdale, AZ. CONDITION: Small hole in tree, consolidated paint causing cracking lines, good. 9-94807

Wandesforde's (Juan Buckingham Wandesforde American, 1817-1902) painting of Reliable Fishing Quarters. This inscription is found on the back of the canvas. Scene shows two gentleman fishing in stream pool with cascading water over rocks and waterfall behind. Scene is flanked by tall trees with an area of blue sky with white clouds. Housed in a period gesso decorated gilt frame. SIZE: 20" x 24". CONDITION: Very good with some inpainting having several canvas patched to reverse. 9-74535 SM
