          Aug. 18, 2022

Signed Walter Bart Bronze Maquette "The Troupe" (2002)

          Est: $1,000 - $1,500

Bart Walter (American, b. 1958). "The Troupe" bronze maquette for "Mother and Child I" on stone base, 2002. Edition 2 of 10. Signature and edition number are inscribed on the mother's side. Bart Walter's "The Troupe" - a finely cast bronze maquette of his limited edition "Mother and Child I" presents an endearing mother and child chimpanzee joyfully at play. Walter engaged in a hands-on approach to create wonderful interpretations of nature's creatures, referencing his own drawings as well as clay and wax studies when sculpting his works. In this piece, the mother chimpanzee is lying on her back with raised limbs so as to simultaneously play with and steady her baby chimp. A sweet limited edition piece mounted upon a beautiful black stone base. Size (including base): 6.625" L x 8.5" W x 9.75" H (16.8 cm x 21.6 cm x 24.8 cm) Artist's Statement: "My art evolves from a passion for all living things. I strive to capture the essence of a living being; to explore some kernel of truth that may have gone unnoticed, and to depict an otherwise elusive moment in time. In my mind's eye, I strip away all that is unnecessary, even as I build the sculpture with layer upon layer of clay. My goal is a distillation of the subject until only true essentials are left. If in so doing I can reveal some intangible spirit, make evident the soul of my subject, and communicate this in my art, then I have accomplished something real." Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
