The artwork represents a natural landscape: it is the land around Arques, a little French village. The pencil stroke is very soft and the chiaroscuro defines the mountains and the house. The drawing was realized by Paul Alexandre Louis Wallet (Amiens, 1818), a French artist and landscape painter who exhibited at the Salon from 1857 to 1970.
