      Est: $800 - $1,000

This is an antique photograuvre print entitled the Ruling Passion after Samuel Edmund Waller. The work is based off an original oil printing from Waller entitled Leaving the Paddock. Waller was an English genre painter, prominent in the mid to late 19th century. He produced a number of genre paintings depicting horses and horsemanship. The composition of this print features two horses and their handlers, one leading and the other on horseback, turning to follow a procession of other riders. At the right in the middleground is a grouping of three people, one horseman and two other folk, with a small dog in the foreground. The print is done after S.E. Waller's original, with the artist's printed signature visible in the bottom left corner of the image.
