      J. Wallace Kelly (American / Pennsylvania 1894-1976). A carved white alabaster statue. "Lullaby" a modern work with scrolling and other abstract forms. No apparent signature. Modeled with an oblong geometric base. Accompanied by a separate carved wood display stand. Sculpture measures approximately 15" x 10" x 11". Base measures approximately 2.75" x 12" x 12". Listed measurements include work and base. Original purchase receipt from Design Corner Contemporary Arts Gallery dated 1956. Wallace Kelly studied sculpture under Charles Grafly at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After studying in Paris under sculptor Emile Antoine Bourdelle, he created several sculptures for the Philadelphia Sesquincetennial Exposition in 1926 and several other works for for buildings in Washington DC before joining the Works Progress Administration as the supervisor of sculpture projects for Pennsylvania. Dimensions: 17.75 X 12 X 12 in. Condition: Good overall condition with mild age related surface wear, and some evidence of loss to base form. Estate fresh to the market.
