      Stuart Walker (1904 - 1940) Pecos New Mexico Logging, ca. 1935 watercolor on paper signed lower right: STUART / WALKER An original member of the Transcendental Painting Group, Stuart Walker moved to Albuquerque in 1925 and became a vital figure in the development of the New Mexico art scene in the early 20th century. Though his career was short, Walker created a powerful body of work that spanned both abstraction and realism. As president of the Art League of New Mexico beginning in 1929, the artist played a crucial role in supporting and promoting New Mexican arts and artists. This piece, depicting loggers working in Pecos, New Mexico, uses muted natural hues and subtle tonal shifts to capture the vibrant character of the New Mexican landscape.
