Kara Walker Art for Sale at Auction

(b Stockton, California, 1969) Contemporary American Artist. In 1991, Walker received her BFA from the Atlanta College of Art and followed that with her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1994. Addressing issues of race, sexuality, and gender, Walker’s appropriation of the 18th and 19th-century practice of cutting paper portrait silhouettes, recreating narratives from the Antebellum South that re-define racial stereotypes and plantation mythologies.* In 2007, Walker received the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur grant for her work. Currently, Walker lives and works in New York where she also teaches at Columbia University.
