Heinrich Waldmüller(1887 München - 1945 Erlangen). Klassische Landschaft. 1937 Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated lower right. With a dedication and an inscription Entwurf für Klass. Landschaft Grosses Bild in Leipzig (Thomas Gymnasium?)'on the reverse.27 x 35 cm (10,6 x 13,7 in). Provenienz: Professor Wilhelm, Akademie Nuremberg. Private collection South Germany. The Munich painter and etcher studied at the Applied Arts School and at the Munich Art Academy with Otto Seitz. Waldmüller specialised in landscape painting. His pictorial idiom is condensed; he tended increasingly towards simplification, reducing everything to essentials yet he never resorted to a stylising approach. The present work is probably a late one since it shows this process brought to perfection. [HL] Good overall impression. Slight colour losses on the edges. Isolated tiny brown stains.
