Very little is known about the life and work of Ingolstadt born artist, Freiin Mathilda von Waldenfels. But it is the artistic techniques and varying mediums of Mathilde Waldenfels' which characterize her talent in many forms of the visual arts: Early on she attended courses in the art of Ddawing and painting, she studied plastics, graduated with a degree in sculpture from Rome. Her portraits are also well-known. As a commissioned artist she copied the great Old Masters and designed porcelain sculptures. Bronze-plastic portrait busts as well as tomb paintings are included in her array of work. Despite the array of mediums she used, the focus of her work is considered to be her sculpture. Only very few are familiar with her paintings, even though at age 18, after moving to Munich she exhibited a floral still life at the local art association which received recognition for its high quality.
