  • Wagner - Barnes's Map of Philadelphia
    Oct. 12, 2019

Wagner - Barnes's Map of Philadelphia

    Est: $300 - $600

This large fold out lithograph is Rufus L. Barnes's Map of Philidelphia. It features the built portion of the city to that point, circa 1859. The map was engraved by Thomas Wagner. Also included is the original cloth cover with gilt lettering. Barnes here records the city at an interesting stage in its development: included are the streets, railroads, city wards, & points of interest. The area covered is from Fairmont Park to part of eastern New Jersey (Camden) beyond Delaware River, and Mifflin to Venango Streets. Though the title claims to chart the "built portion of the city", a good deal of the as yet un-built portion is included. It is ann interesting and attractive map Philadelphia.
