Elizabeth Wadsworth Art for Sale and Sold Prices

b. 1952 -

Elizabeth Wadsworth has always explored creative avenues throughout her career, and after success in fashion and interior design, has pursued her talent in painting. In 1993 she graduated with a Diploma of Fine Arts, majoring in Painting, from the highly acclaimed National Arts School in Sydney.

Influenced by her experiences and interaction with the world - traveling being a major source of impetus, Wadsworth focuses her own journeys onto the canvases. Telling her stories through manipulation of paint and collage - gradually layering paint and rubbing it back while wet, creates works that speak of a process. Her use of colour is evocative, and is often the initial source of inspiration for a series of works, alternating from warm to cool colours each series.

The texture she creates generates intrigue and draws the viewer closer to the canvas to observe the textural detail of the manipulated paint across the work.

There is a sense of movement and fluidity in her works, taking the eye over the canvas, discovering 'moments' scattered across the composition. 'Moments' describe sections of richness across her work where energy and details of Wadsworth's artistic characteristics are captured in a small piece of the entire composition.

The series of moments and strength of colour generate a rhythm, almost a pulse in her artwork igniting an energy that echoes through the room in which her artworks hang.

Wadsworth works on many canvases at one time. Gradually resolving the work, while remaining open to the magic of spontaneity as she creates. Perhaps a reflection of her interior design training, Wadsworth gives a lot of consideration to form, design, composition and proportion. Colour and line evolve as the work develops, and a careful balance throughout the artwork is mastered.

Sometimes, after a series is finished, Wadsworth will create "randoms" as she refers to her one-off creations, which reveal retained creative material and whisper tones of previous works.

As Wadsworth resolves each work she embarks on a journey gently directed by the artist's hand, turning a blank canvas into an evocative painting. Driven by the emotiveness of colour and allowing her subconscious to speak, Wadsworths paintings move from intense energy through to calm resolve, ultimately creating a remarkable series of works.

Wadsworth is represented in important private and corporate collections in Australia and internationally, including GIO Insurance, Village Roadshow (LA, USA), Ariadne Gallery (New York), Sydney Harbour And Foreshores Authority and Roche Corporation. She is represented in Sydney by maree mizon gallery, and in Melbourne by Gallery Ten Eleven. Her international representation is through Yaddo Art in Singapore, where she recently exhibited her work in the group exhibition 'Elements'
