Wilhelm Wachtel 1875-1942 Polish, b. Lemberg (Lviv), Galicia Wachtel was a painter, printmaker, and illustrator who studied at the Academies of Krakow and Munich. While he produced landscapes and portraits in a post-impressionistic style, much of his work was symbolic, incorporating scenes from Jewish life. He was exhibiting paintings and illustrating postcards from at least 1899 onwards. He lived and worked in both Vienna and Paris but his interests in the Zionist Pioneering movement led him to Palestine in 1936. By 1942 he had moved to the United States.
