Josef Vylet'ál first studied architecture with Jan Koula at the Technical University in Bratislava, but after three years he moved to Prague to the Academy of Arts and Crafts to Josef Hoffmeister's studio. Later he worked as a scenic designer at the Theatre Na zábradlí and as a designer he collaborated with film, especially with directors Jan Němec and Juraj Herz. His film posters gained worldwide fame and awards. His most important work as a painter is the monumental mural in the colonnade in Mariánské Lázně, which he created between 1978 and 1980. The list of his solo and collective exhibitions is extremely extensive and includes international exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland and the USA. Josef Vylet's painting reflects the hyper-realistic, illusionistic imagination of Salvador Dali, with whom he was personally acquainted and friends. He carried this tradition deep into the second half of the 20th century. The 1987 painting Breakfast in the Grass is a fanciful and ironic reflection on Gustave Courbet's famous and once controversial painting. In his work, Josef Vyleťal composed through archetypal similarities and symbols of objects that he placed at the center of his paintings. He often transformed destruction and chaos into something imaginative. In his work, Josef Vyleťal outlined a completely new surreality through the archetypal similarities and symbolism of objects that he placed at the center of his paintings. Using numerous analogies, Nitro described cosmic eggs or egg shaped gems becoming the birthplace of new events, vessels and shells harboring the inner creative process, emotions and knowledge. The contours of memories are polarized into points of bright and radiant and gray abstracted wholes. The work of Josef Vyleťal is one of the jewels of post-war Czech art. The composition of the objects that Josef Vyleťal processed in the presented study probably corresponds to the time when the idea for the work Apocalyptic Horseman was born in his head. The peeled lemon appears almost literally in the work. The surrealist carefully processed the themes of the works in a typical dreamlike stylization with numerous symbols. The work of Josef Vyleťal is one of the jewels of post-war Czech art. Vyleťal's works from the exhibition in 1975 in Barcelona became the subject of an admiration letter sent to him by Salvador Dali himself. He wrote to him: "There are only two of us left." The surreal theme of the Golden Helmet mixes the dreamy or even hallucinatory drama and sophistication of Rafael-like style. Through visor of the golden helmet the world looked at by an unworldly, even slightly blissful face with a pungent look. The face is all the more impressive with its veristic concept in contrast to the luminous green mist, which is itself a new surreality. The mystical archetypal figure is perhaps the embodiment of a modern angel, perhaps an ancient deity whose attribute has become a golden helmet. In the blood red heart, which it opens before us, a divine being emerges from the chaos of hands and veiled bodies - at first glance it seems a bit dreamy, but at second glance we see a wide-open god's eye. Josef Vyleťal thus transforms a chaos inside into an element of existential meditation and extraterrestrial beauty. Authenticity granted by Olga Vyleťalová, artist's wife.
