Sculptor, b. 1908 - d. 1974

Yevgeny Viktorovich Vuchetich (28 December [O.S. 15 December] 1908–12 April 1974) was a prominent Soviet sculptor and artist. He is known for his heroic monuments, often of allegoric style, including The Motherland Calls, the largest sculpture in the world at the time.

Vuchetich was born in Yekaterinoslav, Russian Empire (now Dnipro, Ukraine), the son of Viktor Vuchetich (Vucetic), of Serbian ethnicity, and Anna Andreevna Stewart, of Russian and of French descent.[1]

He was a prominent representative of the Socialist Realism style and was awarded with the Lenin Prize in 1970, the Stalin Prize (1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950), Order of Lenin (twice), Order of the Patriotic War (2nd degree), Hero of Socialist Labor (1967) and People's Artist of the USSR (1959).
