In 1493 he joined the Carthusian monastery Wedderen near Dülmen and gave up his civil name. Vredis remained in Weddern for the rest of his life and helt various offices over the years. In 1531 he was voted the monastery's prior. At that time the Wedderen monastery had a buoyant art production and Judocos Vredis made coloured reliefs out of pipe clay in his own workshop. These various works with religious depictions were designed for private devotion. The form created by Vredis was still partly used in the 17th century.
