    Technik: Öl auf Leinwand, auf Keilrahmen gezogen, Signatur: unten rechts handsigniert 'Ch. Votteler.', verso auf altem Etikett bezeichnet und datiert, Maße: 75 x 52 cm, Zustand: gut, Kommentar: Votteler war ein deutscher Lithograph, Illustrator und (Tier-)Maler. Insbesondere seine Kinderbuchillustrationen (v.a. Märchen Gebrüder Grimm und Illustration des 'Reineke Fuchs') erfreuten sich großer Beliebtheit. Votteler war zuweilen auch malerisch tätig, jedoch fokussierten sich seine Darstellungen fast ausschließlich auf Tiere. Das dies sein bevorzugtes Sujet war, sticht auch in diesem Kriegs- Gemälde deutlich hervor. Vorallem technisch ist das Bild jedoch ein Sonderfall im Oeuvre des Künstlers und daher ein seltenes Werk.
